The restoration of the image sequences which are corrupted by blotches is attracting attention. The blotches are relatively large size impulsive noises. The conventional restoration method consists of two main processes, and the first process is motion estimation. Block matching (BM) is used for motion estimation. The second process is filtering. In the first process, since conventional BM is performed by corrupted images, there is a limit in the accuracy of motion estimation. Furthermore, the second process is affected by the accuracy of blotch detection This detection method is simple but this accuracy is not good. Thus, in this paper, to solve the defects in restoration process, we propose a novel restoration method that is preconsidered the position information of blotches by using the recursive median filtering, and enhanced the accuracy of the two processes by using the blotch position images and the virtual original images. We show the effectiveness of the proposed method through the restoration of image sequences.
