PRINCIPAL COMPONENTS ANALYSIS OF DATA FROM SAXICOLOUS BRYOPHYTE VEGETATION AT STEPS BRIDGE, DEVON: III. CORRELATION OF VARIATION IN THE VEGETATION WITH ENVIRONMENTAL VARIABLES

In the previous papers of this series principal components analysis of data from saxicolous bryophyte vegetation at Steps Bridge was described. The components extracted in the analysis were correlated with environmental variables measured at two physical scales, and the results are reported here. The first two components are associated with shade and with crevices, respectively. The latter components apparently have more complicated relationships with environmental variables and the reasons for this, together with possible improvement of the correlation methods, are discussed.
