Functional results of radical prostatectomy

In the abscence of data from controlled trials documenting that radical prostatectomy for early-stage prostate cancer significantly improves survival, the impact of its associated risks on a patient's quality of life may be a critical factor in the decision making. Recent studies evaluating two important complications after radical prostatectomy, urinary incontinence, and erectile dysfunction, are reviewed.
