In this issue, we report the events of the 14th Annual International Meeting and Exposition of the American Telemedicine Association (ATA). 1996 was not so long ago. The Internet was in its infancy and cellular phones were not yet a public nuisance. Twitter was a valid verb meaning to make a succession of chirping noises. Telemedicine meant what it said and did not apologize. The other terms of e-health, telehealth, telewhatever were not in conflict, and medicine in all its forms experimented and tested the feasibility of telecommunications to support the delivery of healthcare at a distance.
