Recent rounds of consolidation, private equity buyouts and semiconductor unit spin-offs are the result of a maturing industry, according to Wall Street, and there is some truth to that. Maturity aside, one could argue that the industry is in a period of change unlike any we have seen before in terms of the level of required node-to-node innovation and the rate at which it has to happen.
