Twenty-eight cases of myeloma in patients over 65 years old were evaluated. The need for early diagnosis and the risks of delay are stressed and an approach to rapid assessment and close follow-up is detailed. A well-recognized staging system related to tumour cell mass was a valuable but somewhat inconsistent guide to prognosis in these older patients.
