A new method based on a deform able model is proposed to extract motions of pliable objects. This method removes some drawbacks of conventional methods, such as artifacts on contours caused on the gradient-based methods and lower accuracy in the region of small glayscale difference in deformable-model. Based on evaluation of both the energy of conventional methods and local minimization methods, detection of shapes and extraction of motions are realized by minimizing both spatial in a frame and interframe energies. Effectiveness of our method was shown by experimental results for sequential thorax MR images.
