Data on the soil mesofauna was collected at four sites in the Mariut region, Egypt. The animals were grouped into 17 taxa belong to 10 families, and were statistically treated by diversity indices, correspondence analysis and ascending hierarchic classification. The faunal composition of the four sites is distinct although three families (Myriapoda, Tenebrionidae and Isopoda) occurred at all four sites. Tenebrionidae are the most abundant family. Diversity indices and trophic structure are discussed in relation to stability, maturity and spatial heterogeneity.
