Every bit as epic as the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Deep Blue is a 35mm feature-length documentary about the great struggle for life in the world's oceans. It takes its audience on a breathtaking journey from coastline to coral reef, across the Artie and Antartic and to the deepest depths of the ocean, where life exists in the total absence of light. With a music score specially composed by George Fenton and performed by the Berlin Philharmonic, plus suitably sparse narration by Sir Michael Gambon, Deep Blue is a powerful audio visual experience which is leaving cinema audiences across the world breathless and tearful. And now it's coming to Britain. The film has been created from over 7000 hours of raw material originally shot for the BBC's award-winning television series, The Blue Planet. In order to get this footage to a high enough resolution and quality for cinema projection its producers, BBC Worldwide and Greenlight Media, took the Digital Intermediate (DI) route.
