N-(2-Pyridyl)-aminomethylene-malononitriles3are obtained in good yields by heating 2-aminopyridines with malononitrile in the presence of orthoformiates. Acid hydrolysis of3leads to pyrido 1,2-apyrimidines (5,6, and7).
