Effects of probe installation method, crack contained in rock specimen, and high temperature on the relationship between apparent dielectric constant and 'volumetric water content of sandstones, tuff and granite, were experimentally examined by using TDR (time domain reflectometry ) technique. The results showed the TDR technique is applicable to determine the volumetric water content of rocks. When the porosity of a rock such as flesh granite is lower, the TDR technique, however, did not sufficiently provide the accurate determination of the water content.
