ExxonMobil has bought a 25pc stake in Italian energy company Eni's deepwater area 4 block offshore Mozambique for $2.8bn. The block contains an estimated 2.4 trillion m~3 of natural gas. The deal gives ExxonMobil a role in Eni's planned 3.3mn t/yr Coral South floating LNG (FLNG) project and other potential LNG developments, including the 12mn t/yr onshore Mamba LNG plant on the Afungi peninsula, which will be supplied with gas from area 4 and US independent Anadarko Petroleum's area 1 block.
