DNP's Photo-Etching Technique Makes Large Cells Practical

Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) has developed an organic thin-film solar cell that is as large as 50 × 50mm and delivers a conversion efficiency of more than 4 percent.A traditional weakness of solar cells is a fall in conversion efficiency that comes with increased size. This cell has in part offset that weakness.Many people have high expectations for photovoltaic (PV) power generation as a clean energy source that does not contribute to global warming. However, the cost of manufacturing solar cells, especially inorganic solar cells based on silicon, is high.
