Dimmable electronic ballasts are used more and more in applications to reduce energy consumption by dimming or switching off artificial light in case of sufficient natural light. Another important reason for using a dimmable ballast is to provide suitable lighting for the workplace. To define the requirements of an electronic ballast for such applications, we have to consider, on the one hand, the arrangement of the lighting system and, on the other hand, the signals used to control the dimming level.
