Circumcision and urinary tract infection

摘要

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is an important clinical problem during childhood. Recently, routine neonatal circumcision has been found to decrease the risk of UTI during infancy substantially. Data support the same protective effect during older childhood and adulthood. All published literature on the relationship between UTI and circumcision status is reviewed. The physiologic basis for the protective effect of circumcision is discussed.
