A plant transient expression vector has been developed that simultaneously expresses beta-glucuronidase from a cauliflower mosaic caulimovirus promoter and a test gene from a figwort mosaic caulimovirus promoter. This vector, which is manipulated inEscherichia coli, allows the testing of cell death inducing genes in plant cells. The capability of this vector has been demonstrated via expression of the diphtheria toxin.
