Interactions between alcohol and drugs

Alcohol is widely consumed. Its pharmacology is important. Interactions with prescription drugs can: enhance the absorption of ethanol (e.g. erythromycin). Inhibition of aldehyde dehydrogenase increases the concentration of aldehyde (e.g. disulfiram); and pharmacodynamic interactions are common, especially with psychotropic drugs (e.g. diazepam).
