With its sturdy build and ample security options, the $1,849 HP Compaq 2510p is a solid, safe, and straitlaced ultraportable for business travelers. Though its charcoal chassis is a bit bland and blocky, the 2510p': diminutive size is eye-catching. (It weighs just over three pounds.) The laptop's magnesium-alloy casing lends it sturdiness absent from other ultraportables we've seen, while HP's 3D DriveGuard protects the hard drive from travel abuse. The notebook's 1,280x800-resolution, 12.1-inch wide-screen display uses HP's Illu-mi-Lite LED backlight, making for an evenly bright display, as well as some apparent power savings; we were able to get roughly three hours of full-throttle performance on a battery charge in our tests.
