Gasoline has zigged, but ethanol has zagged. That's one way to describe a mid-September motor fuels market where traditional gasoline blends are selling for as much as 60cts/gal over the spot price of ethanol. And the record gap between the two products has not gone unnoticed - marketers and suppliers are racing to get tanks and logistics figured out so that they cut their wholesale costs with the cheap alcohol. But even those who were quick to spot the opportunity admit that they did not think that ethanol would be selling at such a steep discount, clear through the end of 2008.
