A monographic investigation of the genusHolwayaSacc. leads to acceptance of a single species,H. mucida(Schulzer) comb, nov., for which a longer-spored variant from Japan,H. mucidasubsp.nipponicasubsp. nov., is described. The prominent stilbaceous imperfect state present in both subspecies isCrinula caliciiformis(Fr.) ex Fr.CrinulaSacc. non Fries,DitiolaSchulzer non Fries, andJugglerandiaLloyd are synonyms ofHolwaya. Two species previously referred to the genus are excluded:H. salicisbecomesDurandiella salicis(Muuml;ller amp; Ahmad) comb, nov.;H. pusillabelongs to the genus usually calledCorynellaBoud., but that generic name is an invalid later homonym.ClaussenomycesKirschst. is available to accommodate species previously placed inCorynella, and three new combinations are proposed,Claussenomyces atrovirens(Pers. ex pers.),C. prasinulus(Karst), andC. pusillus(Rehm); a key to the four accepted species of that genus is provided.
