GOVT. PLANS TO TAKE OVER 27 COAL MINES ABANDONED BY EASTERN COALF

The State Government has proposed to take over 27 coal mines that have been abandoned by Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL) and operate them on a public private partnership (PPP) basis. Speaking to newspersons at Writers Buildings here, the West Bengal Chief Secretary, Mr Amit Kiran Deb, said the union Government had recently formed a task force to suggest ways to tackle the issue of illegal mining, Which has emerged as a major problem in some district in the state.
