Problems of using systems in the ultraviolet (UV) range are considered, in particular, for detection of high-speed small objects and flashing optical elements against the background of the Earth's surface. The results of the experimental estimation of the effective reflecting area (ERA) of supersonic objects are presented using the example of an artillery shell in the solar-blind UV range of optical radiation. The possibility of developing hardware for the implementation of such systems is considered. (C) 2017 Optical Society of America
