Genitourinary medicine recruitment has been affected by tendering (Workforce Planning, 20 January), but in 2017,55 of national training numbers were recruited in the first round, and 84 of training posts are full. Because of the increasing complexity of cases seen by genitourinary medicine doctors, dual trainingwith general internal medicine will start in 2019. Trainees will complete the initial three years of internal medicine before starting higher specialist training in genitourinary medicine. This will broaden the training and offer a wider scope of work.
