Rehabilitation of posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injuries has traditionally been conservative. Recent advances in surgical technique and an increased understanding of the anatomy and biomechanics of the knee joint, have permitted more PCL injuries to be treated surgically, especially when multiple ligaments are involved. Rehabilitation programs have also evolved as treatment of PCL and multiple ligament injuries has become surgical. The authors present a program for rehabilitation of surgically managed PCL and the multiple-ligament-injured knee based on available scientific literature and personal experience.
