A survey of 32 British Alcoholism Treatment Units and 38 local Councils on Alcoholism revealed that the majority of the former, and a substantial number of the latter, offered treatment aimed at controlled drinking to some of their clients. Wide differences emerged between agencies in the proportions of clients aiming at moderation. Data are presented regarding the manner in which controlled drinking treatment programmes are implemented.
