Photochemical properties were determined for undegraded phytochrome purified from lyophilized rye seedlings (Secale cerealecv. Cougar). The preparation was shown to be a two-component system during phototransformations and dark transformation from red-light-induced photostationary state. The mole fraction of PFRat the 665-nm-light-induced photostationary state was 0.84. The ratio of the quantum yield of photoconversion from PRto PFRto that from PFRto PRwas 1.53.
