CH2Cl2, CHCl3and CCl4react with water vapour to give CO2+ HCl overγ-Al2O3, TiO2(rutile) and other acidic oxide catalysts; high conversions are obtained between 673 and 773 K. Rates are proportional to concentration of chlorinated methane and are inhibited by high concentrations of water; they are described by a Langmuir-Hinshelwood rate expression
