Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station Units No. 6 and 7, the world's first ABWRs (Advanced Boiling Water Reactor), started commercial operation on Nov. 7, 1996 and July 2, 1997 respectively, and continued their first cycle operation at 100 output without any unscheduled shutdowns. The first annual inspection of unit No.6 started on Nov.20, 1997 and was completed within 61 days (including 6 day new year holidays). The first annual inspection of unit No.7 started earlier than usual on May 27, 1998 to avoid annual inspection in summer and was completed within 55 days. Both annual inspections were carried out as planned within a very short term in consideration of the fact that this was the first annual inspection having a lot of inspection items. In this paper, the first cycle operation and first annual inspection experiences of Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station Units No.6 and 7 are reported.
