A 57 year-old man was admitted with pain in his left thumb, which had been present for 3 months. The patient could not recall any preceding trauma. Physical examination revealed only tenderness at the IP joint. X-ray revealed a lytic lesion in the proximal phalanx of his left thumb (Fig 1). A CT scan confirmed the same. The lesion was excised. Macroscopic evaluation at surgery demonstrated a round lesion with well-defined and sclerotic boundaries. The histological diagnosis was a capillary haemangioma.
