The main field of the scientific cooperation between the Shanghai Institute for Ceramics and the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids is focused on borophoshates (intermediate compounds of the systems M_xO_y-B_2O_3-P_2O_5-(H_2O), M = metal) which contain complex anionic structures built of BO_3, BO_4 and PO_4 groups and their partially protonated species, respectively. Intensive research on borophosphates was started only ten years ago by Rudiger Kniep's group. The close cooperation between Zhao Jingtai and Rudiger Kniep already starte in 2000.
