A projection operator method is used to derive a master equation for energy migration in multicomponent crystals. The equation contains the effect of disorder in the excited state energies of the molecules, as well as the effect of the connectivity of the lattice and the concentrations. A discussion is given of existing work on the problem, with an eye to unification of contending points of view. The dynamical analogs of some important concepts in timehyphen;independent solid state physics are obtained.
