Biological control of crown gall disease caused byAgrobacterium radiobactervar.tumefaciensby the closely related strainAgrobacterium radiobactervar.radiobacterstrain 84 (Keaneet al.1970:Australian Journal of Biological Science 23: 585#x2013;95.) was evaluated on cuttings ofSalix matsudanaandSalix purpureacv.#x2018;Booth#x2019; in pot and field trials. Disease was controlled completely in pot trials with strain 84 at levels greater than 106cells/ml. Control was not complete in field trials because of the presence of pathogens resistant to bacteriocin 84.
