NA;A 62hyphen;yearhyphen;old woman was hospitalized after bone tumors appeared incidentally on chest radiographs. Laboratory data were consistent with primary hyperparathyroidism. Computed tomography of the neck revealed a papillary polyp with a right thyroid cyst and a right inferior parathyroid adenoma. TIhyphen;201 and Tchyphen;99m sestamibi scintigraphy revealed uptake not only in the parathyroid adenoma but also in the left clavicle, sternum, and ribs. A bone biopsy revealed a brown tumor. The sensitivity of Tchyphen;99m HMDP is superior to that of TIhyphen;201 and Tchyphen;99m sestamibi in detecting brown tumors. Brown tumors can be associated with both falsehyphen;positive and falsehyphen;negative findings on TIhyphen;201 and Tchyphen;99m sestamibi scintigraphy.
