A wide variety of drugs are capable of causing damage to hair, resulting in excessive loss, abnormal growth, or discolouration. In most cases the drugs damage the hair directly, but in some damage is indirectmdash;secondary to a generalized drug-induced disorder or a localized skin reaction caused by the culprit drug-The nails can also be damaged by drugs, either in isolation or as part of a more widespread cutaneous reaction. Nail discolouration can also be induced by some drugs.
