THE NINE-HOUR MATHEMATICS SEQUENCE FOR THE GENERAL PRESERVICE ELEMENTARY TEACHER AT TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY

At Texas Tech University all students seeking elementary teacher certification must complete a 9-hour, three-course sequence of mathematics courses designed especially to address the standards called for in the Mathematical Association of America'sCall for Change9 and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics'Standards. 10,11 In this paper we discuss the development, philosophy, design, and implementation of the sequence.
