A large US trial predicts that comorbid conditions in older breast cancer patients can be associated with decreased overall survival and increased mortality. "...those who had other health problems in addition to breast cancershad a higher mortality rate than patients without comorbid conditions. The studied looked at a total of 64,034 women who had been diagnosed with breast cancer between 1992 and 2000. Of these women, those who had other health problems in addition to breast cancers had a higher mortality rate than patients without comorbid conditions. Common comorbidi-ties in breast cancer patients include cardiovascular complication, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, ulcers and diabetes.
