The shipments of solar cells and modules by Japanese manufacturers has expanded dramatically during the July to September 2008 period, increasing 44.3 percent year-on-year to 304,469kW. Figures compiled by the Japan Photovoltaic Energy Association (JPEA), which has 17 member-companies, also showed that exports of solar cells and modules, which account for 82.8 percent of the total shipments, increased 50 percent. Specifically, exports of Japan's solar cells and modules registered 56 percent increase year-on-year to 251,973kW. Countries in the European region are the major destination of exports, growing 53.1 percent year-on-year to 170,770kW.
