Phoma cyperisp.nov. is described as a new pathogen ofCyperus iriaL. It differed characteristically in culture, conidiomata, abortive cells, chlamydospores, and dictyochlamydospores from four closely related species ofPhoma.Phoma cyperishowed specificity towards nut sedges and produced at least one phytotoxin.Key words:Phoma cyperisp.nov.,Cyperus iria, new pathogen, chlamydospore, dictyochlamydospore, phytotoxin.
