Anticipating the possibilities for new genetic and reproductive technologies has become the latest obsession of bioethicists and regulators. The potential to modify inheritable human genes generates high anxiety as it is increasingly allied with human cloning, the creation of human to non-human hybrids and the conception of chimeras. Not only do we need to be concerned about 'designer' babies with genetic enhancements that improve everything from intellectual to athletic ability but we must also rethink the boundaries of what it is to be human.
