During the last 15 years new problems of vehicle track interactionhave obtained continuously growing importance. The most important ofthese problems are short wavelengths rail corrugations, out of roundwheels of passenger cars, ballast degradation and irregular ballastsettlement and different damage phenomena on the rail tread which noware comprised as rolling contact fatigue. Whereas the consequences ofthese problems are evident, this is not the same with irregularsettlement in the subgrade due to medium-frequency vibrations andwith questions emerging with controlled traction drives. The problemsinfluence in the life-cycle-costs of the track heavy an causeddeteriorations in passenger comfort and environmental affection.
