Ozone oxidation of corn starch

AbstractThe oxidation of granular corn starch with ozone under various conditions was investigated. The reaction was found to be influenced by water, with the highest degree of oxidation being obtained at 23°C. in an aqueous solution of acetic acid as the suspending medium. In each medium investigated, approximately 65–75 of the total carbonyls generated were found to be aldehydes.
