The infrahyphen;red absorption spectra of aqueous solutions of nine monosaccharides and four disaccharides have been observed in the region between 1.7 and 4.6mgr;. A special technique of evaporation was used in the preparation of samples, so as to minimize the effect of the solvent upon the transmission curves. It was found that all thirteen materials gave very similar spectra; band locations were very nearly identical, although there was some degree of variation in intensities. Bands not previously reported were found at 2.16 and 2.35mgr;, and the intense absorption in the region of 3.3mgr; was partially resolved into component bands.
