Spinal epidural abscess (SEA) is an uncommon clinical entity (0.2ndash;1.2 per 10,000 admissions2,6) that may result in paralysis if not diagnosed and treated in a timely manner.Staphylococcus aureusis the most common infectious organism, spread by a hematogenous route or by direct extension from vertebral osteomyelitis.7The clinical presentation, which includes spinal pain followed by radicular pain and weakness, is easily confused with that of many other diagnoses, often leading to delay in treatment. We present a case of SEA in a patient with retroperitoneal myxoid liposarcoma, a duodenal ulcer, and a fistulous tract with the lumbar spinal canal and subarachnoid space.
