Drug-induced cytopenias are common with cytotoxic and some immunosuppressive drugs, and are usually anticipated in this context. With other agents they are rare, and recognition depends on an appreciation of the risk, the education of patients to report relevant symptoms, and prompt examination of the blood. Appropriate drug discontinuation, investigation, and supportive care, in addition to specific treatment, may be necessary.
