A stainless steel quartz cell for infrared transmission spectrophotometry of catalyst wafers is described. Wafer temperatures can be varied over a range from 900 to −196°C. The spectral range covered depends on the window material; a variety of windows can be used. With a 5–10 mg catalyst wafer in place in the cell, pressures in the low 10−9Torr region have been attained.
