摘要

Myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) with single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) has become a standard test for the diagnosis, assessment, and management of coronary artery disease (CAD). In the United States this test is typically performed with either thallium 201 or a technetium-based radioisotope in combination with exercise or pharmacologic stress. A variety of protocols exist, designed to address specific clinical and laboratory needs. Optimal laboratory performance is dependent on properly preparing the patient for the stress and imaging protocol. This overview will address those aspects of patient preparation before and during MPI studies that will give the best opportunity for maximizing clinical accuracy and laboratory efficiency.
