Wireless LAN in the 2.40-2.48 GHz band (IEEE 802. 11b) has become widespread using wireless communication terminals such as laptop computers recently. However, from the point of view of transmission speed and security, wireless LAN in the 5.15-5.35 GHz band (IEEE802.11a) has been noticed. To use the two frequency bands simultaneously, it is undesirable to have two different antennas mounted in computers. Therefore, in this paper, a dual-band planar inverted F antenna, which can be mounted in laptop computers and cover both frequency bands, are introduced using FDTD method. As a result, it was observed that it meets demands of the bandwidth in the 2.402.48 GRz and 5.15 -5.35 GHz bands by putting it in a laptop computer. Moreover, effects of the antenna characteristics on a human body, which exists in front of computer, are described.
