A 51-year-old Romanian male without a significant past medical history presents with shortness of breath, bilateral lower extremity swelling and right upper extremity swelling and pain. Doppler ultrasound confirmed an extensive right upper extremity Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). He was antic-oagulated with intravenous heparin. He developed hemodynamic instability on Day 2 of hospitalization and required vasopressors. A left femoral triple lumen catheter was placed urgently. Computed tomography (CT) angiography of the chest excluded pulmonary embolism. A transthoracic echocardio-gram revealed severely impaired left ventricular function with an ejection fraction of 10. He was transferred to our institution for consideration for placement of a left ventricular assist device.
