Individual signals generated by the arithmetic unit in the gamma camera head can be converted into a form suitable for storage on a commercial video tape recorder. Tests have been carried out with a Nuclear Enterprises Mark IV gamma camera using the standard NE recording interface to a Nivico KV350 video tape recorder. When the gamma camera count rate is less than a few thousand counts per second the replay image exhibits two serious defects. There is a considerable loss of genuine data points together with the appearance of signals which are not present in the original image. If, however, during recording, a second independently generated sequence is added to the original sequence so that the system is handling pulse trains of more than 4000 per second, an improvement in production of genuine signals is obtained in both respects.
