This article on channel coding is to impress upon the readers the need for the channel coding to make them familiar with the characteristics of channel and signal like entropy, information rate etc and to emphasize the relevance of Shannon's theorem. It explains in detail the various channel coding techniques under the waveform coding and structured redundancy techniques. The section on waveform coding techniques highlights the antipodal, orthogonal, biorthogonal, and transorthogonal codes. Structured redundancy techniques cover a gamut of coding techniques under linear block codes, cyclic codes and convolutional codes. The article also dwells upon the random and burst error detection and correction capabilities of various channel codes.
